Summary
A mahogany bureau cabinet, or bureau bookcase, English, mid- to late 18th century. Topped by a moulded cornice above a pair of cupboard doors. each with a sunken panel of figured mahogany in a frame with ogee-profiled upper corners, and fitted to the interior with oak drawers, pigeonholes and divisions. The bureau base with hinged fall lined to the interior with later leather and fitted interior, and above four graduated cockbeaded and oak-lined long drawers, with base moulding and bracket feet. Brass handles and escutcheons (some later) and high quality brass locks.
Provenance
Date of introduction to Greenway not recorded, but given to the National Trust by Mrs Rosalind Hicks (d. 2004), Anthony Hicks (d. 2005) and Mathew Prichard in 2006, and accepted in 2007.
