Oil painting on canvas, The Hon. Enid Edith Wilson, Countess of Chesterfield (1878-1957) by Ellis William Roberts (Burslem 1860 – Brighton 1930). 1900. Wife of Edwyn Francis Scudamore-Stanhope, 10th Earl of Chesterfield. Painted in the year of her marriage. Contemporary frame: Regency inspired large ogee cushion frame, softwood with applied composition decoration, oil gilded.
Provenance
In the saloon at Beningbrough at the time of the death of Lady Chesterfield (1878 -1957), this work was not offered for sale at the 1958 auction but originally left as a loan to the National Trust by Lady Chesterfield's heir before later being made a gift.
