Summary
An embroidered raised work picture, 'The Sacrifice of Isaac', English, circa 1660, possibly originally worked as part of a layette basket, the central embroidered panel bordered by lace and satin borders with rosettes of ribbon to the corners. Central oval vignette of Isaac and Abraham with raised satin face, needlepoint robes and silver sabre, purl wire strapwork, raised work lion and leopard, two birds with three-dimensional wings, satin stitched tulips and lilies to the corners, slight fading, generally very good condition, in tortoiseshell frame.

Introduced to the Property by Agatha Christie Mallowan. ? Inventory taken just before the house was requisitioned by the American Navy 1942, page 2 embroidered picture of a scriptural scene

Verso Central label 'Charles 1st stump work picture with as lace worked border set with pink ribbons. Subject - The Story of the Sacrifice of Abraham. This panel was worked as a cover to place on a layette basket. Very few of these covers survive'.
