Summary
French prisoner of war straw box, hinged, fabric lined inside. Narrow rectangular box with button snap catch to the lid; wooden core. The top of the lid is decorated with a floral spray (damaged) with surrounding chequer bands and vertical straw borders. The sides are covered in horizontal straws. Inside, the lid is padded and covered with magenta watered silk; the floor and sides with red velvet (not original). This is probably a spectacle case and could be POW work, circa 1820.
