Summary
An 18th century Indian sword. The narrow tapering blade with chiselled marks. The gilt brass hilt in cruciform shape with rope twist hand grip and urn shaped pommel.
Provenance
Possibly Robert Clive's dress sword. This sword bears a marked resemblance to the dress sword worn by Clive in a portrait at Powis Castle. Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
