Summary
Marble sculpture, Putto holding a Star and a Dove: One of the Four Elements - Air by Peter van den Branden (fl. Heidleberg c.1714 - 1720), circa 1700. One of a set of four marble figures of putti representing the elements. Male putti holding a dove. Possibly in the guise of Mercury or Hermes holding a star in his right hand and a cockerell on his left.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax, placed on long term loan to the National Trust, then gifted to National Trust on 26th March 1991.
