Summary
A cover for an Imari baluster vase, one of a pair, (c.1700), painted in red, blue, gold and black with phoenix and flowers and with ribbon tie ornament, the shoulder of the vases with butterflies and flowers, the domed covers with eagles, the finials formed as dark brown shishi holding balls (the covers Samson replacements).
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax, placed on long term loan to the National Trust, then gifted to National Trust on 26th March 1991.
