Summary
Oil painting on canvas (oval), King François I, King of France (1494–1547), after Jean Clouet (Flanders c.1485 Paris 1540/41). An oval head-and-shoulders portrait of King François I, in an embroidered doublet with fur cape and hat. A later derivation of the drawing at Chantilly of around 1540, attributed to Jean Clouet.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
