Summary
A cross banded and feather banded walnut writing cabinet or scriptor on later stand, English, circa 1690 and later. The upper section with moulded cornice and cushion frieze drawer and a hinged fall enclosing a fitted interior of drawers and recesses around a cupboard door, the stand with a frieze drawer and raised on twist turned legs tied by wavy stretchers and bun feet.
Provenance
Recorded in 1944 Inventory as ‘A 3ft 6in Queen Anne upright secretaire fall front and interior fittings 1 drawer in cornice a drawer in frieze spiral supports and shaped flat stretcher.' in Oak Drawing Room. Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
