Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, Colonel Lambert Theodore Walpole (1757-1798), British (English) School. c.1790. Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of a young man, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing army uniform (red, blue facings), white cravat tied in a bow. Blue eyes, powdered hair in queue, pale face, modelled with short blue strokes, aged about 30.Colonel Lambert Theodore Walpole, (m. Margaret, daughter of 1st Lord Clive). Walpole was killed by the rebels in Ireland.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
