Summary
Portrait miniature, pen drawing and watercolour painting, The Hon. Charlotte Clive (1762-1795) by Richard Cosway RA (Tiverton, Devon 1742 - London 1821). Rectangular. Half-length portrait of a young woman, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing a dark bodice with white sleeves with a large blue bow at the bosom, a lace frilled collar, gied at the neck with a blue bow. Powdered hair with falling tresses on each shoulder and a large hat pinned up at the side with plumes and a blue bow at the front. Second daughter of Clive of India by Richard Cosway (1742-1821), signed with monogram. In glazed ebonised frame with gold band.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
