Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on card, King Charles II (1630-1685), by David des Granges (London 1611 – after 1670). c.1651-1655. Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of a young man, turned to the left, gazing at the spectator, in armour, buff jerkin and Garter riband. Brown eyes, long back natural hair, slight moustache, aged about 25. Buff gouache background, lit from above. Gilt glazed locket with reverse engraved 'Charles 2nd'
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
