Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, Barbara Herbert, Countess of Powis (1735-1786), British (English) School. c.1765. Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of a woman, turned to the right, gazing to the right, wearing a blue dress with white open collar. Dark eyes, brown hair with blue head-dress, plump rosy face, aged about 30. Similar to POW.D.17 in Clive Museum. Gold glazed locket with Barbara, Countess of Powis engraved on reverse.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
