Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour painting on paper, Edward Clive, 1st Earl of Powis III (1754-1839), British (English) School. c.1800. Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of a man turned to the right, gazing to the right, in a military uniform. lilac-coloured coat with gold frogging and red colar, yellow waistcoat, white bow cravat. Dark eyes, grey hair in queue, aged about 45. Light grey background, lit from the left. (in cat and 1988 list wrongly described as being on ivory). see 'Treasures from India' catalogue pg.137. Miniature in red leather case with white silk lining.

Purchased by the National Trust with funding from The National Heritage Memorial Fund from John George Herbert, 8th Earl of Powis and Powis Estate Trustees in August 1999.
