Summary
Huqqa pipe and snake - Part of a collection of huqqa snakes and pipes. A huqqa snake (T.11.9a) with trellis decoration formed from black silk, gilt foil and gilt silk threads, the ends bound with gilt silk thread. Ensuite with pipe (T.11.9b) also in Clive Store; the bamboo stems covered in black silk decorated with strips of gold foil overlaid with a net of gold threads, and with bands of gilt foil bound with gilt thread forming a raised diamond pattern. The bung with a large wad of paper attached. Mughal style, mid 18th century. See 'Treasures from India' catalogue pg.105.

Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
