Summary
Huqqa pipe and snake - Part of a collection of huqqa snakes and pipes. A huqqa snake (T.11.8a) with trellis decoration formed from black silk, gilt foil and gilt silk threads. Ensuite with pipe (T.11.8b) in Clive Store; the bamboo stems decorated with three bands of gilt foil bound with gilt thread forming a raised diamond pattern, with fine gold thread bands above and below; the centre bands of woven black silk, gilt foil and gilt thread in a woven net. The bungs covered in black silk and bound with black silk threads in a diamond trellis. Mughal style, mid 18th century. See 'Treasures from India' catalogue pg.105.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
