Summary
Huqqa pipe and snake - Part of a collection of huqqa snakes and pipes. A huqqa snake (T.11.5a) covered in black silk, the ends decorated with a woven pattern of gold thread and gilt foil strips. Ensuite with pipe (T.11.5b) - in Clive Store; the centres of the bamboo stems with woven decoration of silver foil and silver thread, with bands of gilt thread and raised diamond gilt foil above and below the central bands; the bungs covered in black silk thread. Mughal style, mid 18th century. See 'Treasures from India' catalogue pg.105.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
