Summary
Huqqa pipe and snake - Part of a collection of huqqa snakes and pipes. A huqqa snake (T.11.10a) with chevron decoration of woven foil and gilt thread (badly tarnished) and with a band of finer bound foil decoration near the attached mouthpiece. Ensuite with pipe (T.11.10b) also in Clive Store; the bamboo stems with a central band of woven chevron decoration in foil and gilt thread (badly tarnished), and with bands of raised diamond pattern above and below; the bung covered in tightly wound cotton tape. Mughal style, mid 18th century. See 'Treasures from India' catalogue pg.105.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
