Summary
Huqqa snake cover - One of four huqqa snake covers, embroidered with coloured silk and silver gilt thread; plum velvet, the ends with borders of flowering plants in oval cartouches, coloured silks and metal thread on a ground of silver gilt strips, within rectangular borders representing coloured inset gems, the upper borders of wavy lines inmetal threads; gilt tinsel fringe. Provenance
Collected by Robert Clive (1725-1774). The 1774 and 1775 include numerous references to huqqa furnishings. Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
