Summary
Huqqa snake cover - One of four huqqa snake covers, embroidered with coloured silk and silver gilt thread, the centre panel green silk, with applied gold and silver ribbons in a chevron design, one border of applied fibre loops in overlapping rows, and with three borders decorated with iridescent beetle wings and silver foil; gilt tinsel fringe; yellow mashru lining. Provenance
Collected by Robert Clive (1725-1774). The 1774 and 1775 include numerous references to huqqa furnishings. Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
