Summary
Dress and jacket - Remains of a 'Moor's Dress' (jama); cotton with applied gilt foil strips and with embroidered flower sprigs in red, yellow, lime-green and black. The original garment has been dismantled and made up into a full length sleeveless dress (T.7.1) with low cut bodice with the lappets applied to form a panel at the front, fastened with a zip at the back, and a jacket (T.7.2) with three quarter length sleeves, red velvet collar and red silk lining. Provenance
Made for the 5th Countess of Powis and presented by her to the National Trust in 1983. She is shown wearing this dress in the portrait by Marienteu in the Dining Room. Purchased by the National Trust from the John George Herbert, 8th Earl of Powis and Powis Estate Trustees in March 2001.
