Summary
Pair of Sinhalese scissors, the double-curved shafts with incised scrolling decoration, and with curling blades; steel overlaid with sheet silver and with gold or brass inlay, gilt decoration to the handles. Sri Lanka, 18th century. See 'Treasures from India' catalogue pg.78.
Provenance
Probably collected by Robert Clive (1725-1774). Listed in the 1775 inventory are 'a pair of scissors inlaid with Gold and Silver'. Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963
