Summary
A large silver seven branch perfume stand, each branch in the form of a lotus bud, on a scrolled stem supported by a leaf; each bud with a hinged top, which opens to reveal a small spherical bottle. The tray pierced at the centre and embossed with lotus petals; the edge with applied decoration of silver gilt florets, with applied red and green decoration, resting on a rim of gilt leaves; the whole supported on six feet with lotus motif pads. Mughal, second half 18th century.
Provenance
Probably collected by Robert Clive (1725- 1774). Associated with the Durbar set recorded in the 1766 inventory. Purchased by the National Trust with funding from The National Heritage Memorial Fund from John George Herbert, 8th Earl of Powis and Powis Estate Trustees in August 1999.
