Summary
Turned ivory bottle, the neck and foot inlaid with red and black lacquer; the walls of the body eggshell thin. Probably used for holding perfume. W.Bengal (probably Murshidabad), 18th century. See 'Treasures from India' catalogue pg.92.
Provenance
Collected by Robert Clive (1725-1774). Listed in 1775 inventory as 'One fine ivory Bottle, very thin'. Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
