Summary
Box; Writing slope - Portable slope desk, rosewood and ivory with silver key escutcheon and carrying handles; the lid decorated with an asymmetrical flowering tree and with the borders of squared-off 'rosettes' and foliate scrolls; the interior fitted with three pigeon holes, the fronts decorated with arches of ivory with floral decoration filled with black lacquer; two sets of three drawers either side of the pigeon holes (a-f). The base covered in green baize. E. India (Vizagapatam), c.1725-1750. See Treasures of India catalogue P. 82 /no.102.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
