Summary
Gouache under glass, A warrior possibly an early Rajput hero, shown riding a white charger, possibly Chinese School. Portrait of a mounted warrior, gouache painted under glass, cracked and repaired. Chinese artist, Mughal and European influence. Inscription in Gujarati '--ohraj' the first two letters partly missing, the third uncertain. The warrior possibly an early Rajput hero, shown riding a white charger in a landscape with streams lakes and distant hills. Holding a mace, wearing a helmet and arm guards.
Provenance
Brought to Powis Castle in 1930 from Walcot Hall on Shropshire. Purchased by the National Trust with funding from The National Heritage Memorial Fund from John George Herbert, 8th Earl of Powis and Powis Estate Trustees in August 1999.
