Summary
Bronze sculpture, The Hindu God Vishnu, Indian (South India - Tamilnadu) School, circa 1800. Large bronze figure of the God Vishnu standing in the upright posture on a lotus pedestal within an arched halo of flames. He is four-armed with the flaming discus in his upper right hand and the lower right contains a lotus flower. A fiery conch is supported by his upper left hand and the lower left hand holds the handle of his mace against his thigh. S.India (Tamilnadu), c.1800. See catalogue pg.112.
Provenance
Brought to Powis Castle from Walcot Hall in 1930. Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
