Summary
Heavy elephant goad (ankus), with incised steel blade and turned wooden handle. The blade with a parrot head which looks up towards the handle and with ring attached to the bottom of the ferrule. S.India, 18th century. Previous location - Clive Store.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
