Summary
A sword with curved, single-sided watered steel blade, stamped with the name 'Daulet Shah' within an oval cartouche; the blued steel hilt inlaid with floral sprigs within narrow borders of four-petalled flowers alternating with curling leaf (or tiny tiger-stripe), in two colours of gold. (The hilt not original, see 'Treasures of Indiacatalogue pg.49). The disc pommel with swivel; gilt, red and green silk braid carrying strap attached to swivel. Mughal (or possibly Mysore), second half of the 18th century.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
