Summary
A 'firangi' sword with steel basket hilt with shallowly cupped disc pommel with a long spike which has incised decoration; the hilt is fabric lined. Handle wrapped in blue and yellow goat hair cord. The straight blade is probably from a German backsword of c.1640. Hilt Central or S.India, probably late 18th century.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
