Summary
A sword with curved, single-edged steel blade; the steel hilt overlaid with silver. The hilt is inlaid with standard Deccani bidri motifs: the small crosses intersecting a diagonal trellis appear on pieces in the 18th and 19th centuries, and the chevrons which radiate out from the star-shaped pommel base are used on circular trays or on the undersides of the wide, projecting rims of basins. The slender knuckle-guard terminates in a stylised dragons-head. Near the ricasso of the curved, single-edged blade there is an unidentified stamp on one face. With spurred quillon block and disc pommel. Deccan, late 18th/early 19th century.
