Summary
Helmet, constructed from two pieces of sheet metal, rivetted at the sides and shaped like a bishop's mitre. The initials 'EIC' (East India Company) painted on the front in black. Neck guard and ear flaps of sheet metal attached by mail rings. Madras or Bengal Presidency, 18th century. See 'Treasures from India' catalogue No.8/p39.

Purchased by the National Trust with funding from The National Heritage Memorial Fund from John George Herbert, 8th Earl of Powis and Powis Estate Trustees in August 1999.
