Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Nazareth Newton, Lady Paget (1547 - 1589), aged 31, English School, inscribed ANo 1578 / AETATIS.31 [aged 31 in the year 1578]. A three-quarter-length portrait of the wife of Thomas, 3rd Baron, thirteen years after their marriage, looking left, in black and white dress with elaborate lace ruff and surcoat and black and white headdress with beading. She has a pendant jewel to left of waist, suspended on wide ribbon which is tucked under her bejewelled belt. She carries her kid gloves in her right hand and rests her left hand on a tasselled cushion. Coat of arms, top left.
