Summary
Oil painting on panel, William Paget, 1st Baron Paget de Beaudesert, KG (1505/6-63), Flemish School, possibly Jan Cornelis Vermeyen (Beverwijk c.1500 - Brussels 1559), 1549. The original of the three versions at Plas Newydd. A three-quarter length portrait against a plain pale brown background, facing, in furred black gown and flat black cap and wearing the jewel of the Garter (the 'great George'); looking elderly, with a brown forked beard; holding a rolled document in his right hand, his left on his dagger.

West Drayton, by 1556 to after 1728 (see National Portrait Gallery Catalogue, 1969, p.242)? West Drayton, by 1556 (an inventory records: "ii pictures of my Lorde"); ?removed (by the implication of Vertue), to another house; returned to Drayton 1728ff.[1932 Vertue, Notebooks II, p.50 [1728] (referring to restoration by Davenport a little before 1728)]
