Summary
Scuplture. Newel post. One of a pair of Charles II elm newel posts. c.1673, probably by Nicholas Needham. Each is in the form of a wyvern supporting foliated carved cartouche-shaped shields, originally painted.
Provenance
Amongst chattels previously on loan to the National Trust from the Myddelton family. These chattels were purchased on behalf of the National Trust in the Christie's auction at Chirk on 21st June 2004.
