Summary
Eight day longcase clock in walnut case by Patrick Thomas, Chirk c.1730. Two-train, four-pillar movement with anchor escapement and inside count-wheel hour striking on a bell. The12” brass break-arch dial has mask and scroll spandrels, and moon phase indication, lunar calendar and calendar dials in the arch. The plain brass chapter ring has roman hour numerals and arabic five-minute figures, with fler-de-lis half hour markers. The matted dial centre has a seconds dial, two engraved birds, ringed winding holes and a plain panel engraved: Patrick Thomas Chirk”. Pierced steel hands. The walnut veneered case has a break-arch hood with caddy top, glazed sides and turned wooden columns. There are cross-banded and quartered veneers to the rectangular trunk door and to the plinth. The trunk door has a pendulum lenticel and the square base has a plinth with shaped feet.
