This beautiful cabinet is decorated with images of Orpheus and the animals his music was said to charm. Made with inlaid coloured and cut polished stones, the animals include a lion, a stag and a hippopotamus.

Cabinet. Florentine 'pietra dura' inlaid cabinet with inlays depicting Orpheus and the animals. Oak carcase, the front veneered in ebony, the ends in rosewood. the front with 8 long and 2 short drawers and a central door with 1 segmental panel, 17 oblong and 1 upright retained by wavy ebony frames. Possibly Florence, Grandducal Opificio c1650.
