Summary
A joined oak panel-back open armchair, West Country, circa 1630. The toprail carved with addorsed leafy 'S'-scrolls and with integral double-scroll and flowerhead centred carved cresting jointed between guilloche-carved back uprights, topped by later turned finials. The back panel carved with bold leaf-filled lunettes above a rail carced with guilloche. The seat with later boards and between downswept arms with unusual hooked terminals raised on block and ring-turned balusters. The front and side seat rails carved with leaf-filled lunettes. The front legs terminating in block feet, the rear legs plain, and joined all-round with later plain rectangular-section foot stretchers.

Provenance
Amongst the chattels that, in 1978, were acquired along with Chirk Castle from Lt-Col Ririd Myddelton (1902–1988) by the National Land Fund and handed, on loan for 99 years, to the Secretary of State for Wales. In 1981 Chirk was transferred into the ownership of the National Trust. On loan to the Trust from Guy Charles Myddelton. Gifted to Guy C. Myddelton from Captain David Myddelton in 2010. Purchased by the National Trust from Mr Guy Myddelton in 2023.
