Summary
Cupboard. Deuddarn. Carved oak cupboard ('cwpwrdd deuddarn') inscribed 'A F 1744' on label of fluted frieze below 19th century dark-stained cornice. There are two doors to upper stage with knop handles, carved with rosettes and geometric patterns flanking a panel with foliate carving and two guilloche decorated stiles. The lower stage consists of two fluted drawers with two knop handles each above two larger lower doors, each with three panels carved with two diamonds and stylised patterns with central guilloche decorated stile. Three later date brass escutcheons.
Provenance
Previously amongst the chattels that, in 1978, were acquired along with Chirk Castle from Lt-Col Ririd Myddelton (1902–1988) by the National Land Fund and handed, on loan for 99 years, to the Secretary of State for Wales. In 1981 Chirk was transferred into the ownership of the National Trust. Purchased by the National Trust in 2000.
