Summary
A mahogany chair, English, mid-18th century, in the style of Chippendale, the shaped top rail carved with foliate motifs, the pierced back splat in the form of intertwined ribbons with carved foliate details, flanked by two incised uprights, the drop-in seat upholstered in gros-point needlework with flowers and leaves on purple ground, horsehair stuffed, the plain seat rail incised to the rear 'XII', above four chamfered square-section legs, incised to the outer edges of the legs, joined by an H-stretcher.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust in 1980.
