Summary
A mahogany Gainsborough armchair, English, late 18th century, the rectangular back with shaped top rail, padded armrest leading to acanthus carved ends, on downcurved blind fretwork carved supports, the bowfront seat above blind fretwork carved chamfered square-section legs, joined by lozenge-shaped stretchers, re-upholstered with brass-nailed patterned tapestry.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust in 1980.
