Summary
Coin. A French LOUIS XIV 10 sols silver coin. The obverse shows the head of the king, with flowing locks, facing right, surrounded by the inscription LVD . D . G FR . ETNAV REX and the date 1706 at the foot. The reverse shows two mace-type crossed blades, with emblems at each of the four ends, and three fleur-de-lys placed within crosses underneath a central crown. The inscription REGEM O DOMINE . SALVUM . FAC surrounds the central design. There are signs of beading on the obverse.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
