Summary
Ammuntion pouch dated 1850 (circa). An open topped metal case painted red on the inside and covered with black patent leather. The back extends to form a flap with shield shaped bottom edge. Brass coronet and hunting horn decorations are riveted [?] to the flap. A black leather strap is sewn inside the flap and has a slot which fastens over a silver stud in the bottom of the case. Silver bosses at the side of the case hold rings through which slotted leather straps. These straps appear to have originally been sewn to the ends of the sash. Metals are tarnished. Cased dagguerrotype portrait, possibly General John Yorke 1814-90, wearing uniform including the sash and pouch. The dagguerrotype is cased with a piece of newspaper dated 1852; its silver plate is stamped CHRISTOFLE.
Provenance
Given by Phillip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
