Summary
Bag. An embroidered bag dated 1803. Fabric of off-white silk, plain weave, unbalanced taffeta. Embroidery of red and green metal leaf and flower sequins, metal bullion, metal plate couched in silk. Trimmed with off-white cotton lace edging; and off-white silk taffeta ribbon. Hand sewn. Label handwritten in ink 'Work Bag/ Work of C. Cust/ for her Mother/ Dowr. Lady Brownlow/1803'. Fragile and stained.
Provenance
Given by Phillip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
