Summary
Silk flower picture. A framed, oval montage (by Elizabeth Ratcliffe, c.1770) on a cream, satin weave ground and depicting a bouquet of flowers, including polyanthus and violets, together with a caterpillar and a beetle. It is made of silk, paper, wire and wool, and is in a giltwood frame (possibly by Thomas Fentham, c.1773), which is suspended from a finely carved ribbon and bow. Handwritten on the reverse is 'El. Ratcliffe. 1775'.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
