Summary
Three early Eighteenth century English tapestries, Soho, possibly by the workshop of John Vanderbank, c.1720. Scenes depicting figures, some in turquerie, in gardens. The borders are woven with garlands of fruit and flowers and with parrots, cockatoos and other birds. There are outer enchained narrow borders. All the colours are unusually well preserved.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
