In the 18th century, tea canisters were mostly associated with the Mistress of the house and would have been used in the Drawing Room for making tea for visitors
Summary
One of a pair of George II tea canisters of irregular serpentine form, with moulded edges and domed, hinged lids, the fronts engraved with the arms of Yorke impaling Hutton in a rococo cartouche, chased with borders of rococo scrolls, and foliage on a matted ground. John Jacobs, 1739.
Provenance
Given by Phillip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973
