This 18th century bread basket would have been for bread, cake or fruit; and would have graced the dining table
Summary
Cake basket. A George II oval cake basket, on a spreading foot, pierced with scrollwork and foliage, the sides pierced and engraved with arabesque foliage and cartouches engraved with four coats-of-arms, the pierced scroll border with applied masks at the ends, the centre engraved with strapwork and foliage, the flat handle chased with trellis panel and shells. The arms are of Hutton impaling another and Yorke impaling Cust. Peter Archambo, 1734.
