Summary
Horse drum. An 18th century military horse drum (i) from the East Denbighshire Militia. The drum has vellums at each end, and is painted in black and red with armorials surmounted by a Royal Crown. It rests on a mahogany 'trestle' stand (ii) which has turned 'x'-shaped supports. The drum bears the Prince of Wales Feathers, and also the motto 'Royal Denbigh' inside a scroll.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
