Full description
English flintlock blunderbuss, by H. Hay, Chester, c1760. (unrecorded) Plain brass round barrel with turned mouldings at the breech and a flared muzzle. The breech engraved CHESTER, in script. Wooden ramrod with brass tip. Length 39.5cm. Diameter at muzzle 38mm. Walnut full stock with curved hand-rail form butt and early form chequering at the wrist. Plain brass furniture comprising; buttplate with decorative shaped tang, trigger guard with acorn finial, side-plate with fixing screw and 2 engraved ramrod pipes. Flintlock of flat form with bevelled edges and stepped at the tail. Signed H.HAY, in script. Engraved flat cock with bevelled edges (repair to top). Retained to the stock by 2 sidenails. Overall length: 80.5cm
